Special Collection for the Middle East

Holy Cross Parish will take up the National special collection for The Middle East 2014, next weekend, September 20, 21. The funds will be donated directly to and disbursed by Catholic Relief Services. Here is their explantion of how the funds will be used:

These funds will be used by Catholic Relief Services and other Catholic agencies working in partnership with the local Church to meet the most urgent humanitarian needs facing the people in Iraq,Gaza, Syria and surrounding countries where refugees have fled. These organizations have well-established partnerships with the Catholic Church in the region which allow them to respond quickly and efficiently to SUD2010042565_featured_test_370x200b

victims in some of the hardest to reach areas.

Collection funds will also be used to support Church programs to aid persecuted Christians and to respond to rebuilding needs of Catholic dioceses in the impacted areas.

I'm Living Right Next Door to An Angel

Here's some progress on the statue niche on the outside of the North transept on Ward Avenue. Behind the niche, is the confessional, which is gradually now becoming walled in as workers complete the sheathing on the niche.

Major ductwork and air handling units. The plumbing for the potable water is now being installed.

Excavation for the porch, stairs and belvedere at the South main entry

There will be more of a grade to the church than is now seen

Steel Arrives for Statue Niches

Workers began fitting the steel to the three statue niches on the church, two on Ward Avenue and one on the South transept facing the Prayer Garden.

Here's a very rough approximation of their appearance with images of statues.

A 6 foot high marble statue of Mary will be in the niche on the prayer garden side.

The two niches on Ward Avenue will be filled with angels. Here is a diagram of one possibility for the North transept niche

We are gratefully accepting donations for the two angel statues on Ward Avenue.

Celebrate the Parish Feast of The Exaltation of the Holy Cross With Mass, A Picnic and A Tour of the New Church

Church01Sunday, September 14th is the Feast of Exaltation of the Holy Cross, our Parish Feastday.

Please join us for prayer and Eucharist and following the 12 noon mass, an outdoor picnic coordinated by both the parish staff and the PTA from 12 PM to 3 PM.

There will be plenty of activities for the children so mom and dad should get some time to relax, and lots to eat.

A group of our docents has volunteered to give walk through tours of the new church. We should be able to accomodate small groups all afternoon.

Let us pray for the spiritual health of our parish and all its parishioners on this most joyful day!
